Clare Maurice Elected President of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law
We are delighted to announce Clare Maurice, Senior Partner, has been elected President of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law. Formed in 1975, the Academy now has members who practice or have offices in 41 countries. Membership is by invitation only and is a highly selective group of individuals who practise trust and estate planning.
Clare Maurice said: “It is an honour to be selected to be part of such a prestigious group of professionals and I have benefitted hugely from meeting and learning from these people. The network has also provided the opporuntity to work with many of them. ”
A member herself since 2002, Clare has regularly spoken at the annual conventions and is the first female President with Ellen Harrison, partner from McDermott Will & Emery, being named as President elect; both are two year appointments.
Maurice explained: "We all meet once a year to share experiences from our relevant jurisdictions and debate issues. This year we covered topics from privacy and transparency to what to do with genetic material in death.
"We also have informal engagements which allow for good networking opportunities as well. The majority of members are practitioners as well as academics and some judges. We use our gatherings to learn about how our colleagues in different jurisdictions manage issues that all families have; from preserving wealth to succession planning."
