Anna advises a wide range of private clients including high net worth individuals, financial institutions, family offices, charities, trustees and beneficiaries on a variety of matters including trust law, international and UK estate and succession planning and charity law issues.

Anna focuses on advising trustees, beneficiaries and settlors on all matters relating to the structuring, establishment and ongoing administration of trusts, in contentious and non-contentious situations, and advising UK based and international individuals and trustees in relation to their UK tax exposure. She practiced in the Channel Islands for three years and has particular experience in advising on the creation of complex offshore trust and foundation structures.

Anna also assists and advises clients in relation to the establishment of UK charities or donor advised funds as well as offshore charitable trusts and foundations, and advises existing charities with their administration and ongoing management.

Anna advises private clients with their domestic and international estate planning, including the inheritance tax, legal and practical aspects of lifetime gifts and preparation of lasting powers of attorney.

Anna was listed as one of the Private Client Global Elite’s “Ones to Watch” by Legal Week in 2019 and 2021. She obtained her LLB in Law from the University of Durham and trained at Boodle Hatfield LLP before moving to Bedell Cristin in Jersey on qualification in October 2012. Anna joined Maurice Turnor Gardner LLP in 2015.

Anna has particular experience of advising ultra high-net worth individuals in relation to the creation of wealth protection structures, and in advising professional and lay trustees on the creation and administration of trusts and foundations. She also advises on general trust issues and contentious matters including issues arising on the breakdown in family relationships and disputes between beneficiaries and trustees.

Recent experience includes:

advising Middle Eastern clients on establishing offshore private trust companies and trusts with settlor reserved powers, and in particular advising on methods of creating Shari’a compliant trust structures;
advising the lay trustees on their duties with regard to a contentious family trust, and their conflict of interest;
advising the family office of an ultra-high net worth individual on the structuring of a dynastic family and philanthropic trust structure;
advising and assisting with the purchase of high value real estate using corporate vehicles and on the restructuring options following the recent tax changes for “enveloped” dwellings;
advising trustees on the UK tax consequences of loans and distributions to UK resident beneficiaries and where UK resident individuals will be the ultimate recipient of trust funds; and
advising trustees in relation to perpetuity issues and on the possibility of extending the applicable perpetuity and accumulation periods.

Anna advises on a wide range of issues affecting charities including their formation and ongoing administration, the duties of charity trustees, UK tax issues and day-to-day governance matters.

Recent experience includes:

advising the charity trustees on various cross border issues including receiving donations from US taxpayers and on their duties with regard to non UK resident volunteers;
advising high net worth individuals and corporates on their philanthropic giving including establishing their own charitable structures, by way of donor advised funds or new charities;
advising charities on the use of trading subsidiaries and gift aid issues arising out of international activities and funding; and
making disclosures to and corresponding with the Charity Commission in relation to historic non-compliance and trustee breach of duty.
